July 22nd, 2011 marks itself as the day I first start chemotherapy.
The “cocktail” is commonly referred to as R-CVP
where:
R= Rituxan, monoclonal antibody targeting cancerous lymphocytes
C= Cyclophosphamide
V= Vincristine
P= Prednisone
Rituxan being a biological agent, I have to be premedicated with anti-allergy meds like Reactine and Singulair. This is to thwart any possible reactions to the Rituxan. Also for the first time it is injected at a very slow rate
When all was said and done this first session took 7 hours.
